In this 1975 interview on the Dinah Shore Show, Johnny Cash explains what let him to write the song “Strawberry Cake.” He then sings the song with accompaniment from Shore.
As Cash says that he saw a man sleeping on the sidewalk near Central Park in New York City. Going back to his hotel, “…there was the pretties strawberry cake I ever saw. I was almost tempted to go out and wake that guy up and say ‘Come on. You go and grab that cake and run, and I’ll block for you.”
